Currently working as a food and beverage attendant at the Stamford hotel in Auckland I fell in love with hospitality at a tender age of 14. I used to work at a small café on the St Helier’s waterfront. It was the start of an excellent adventure. From being a humble kitchen hand I soon moved up at the café kitchen dishing out the entrees and desserts.

I spent two and a half years learning the basics and moved to another Café in beautiful Remuera where I got involved in front of house operations. Soon I moved on to another small cafe in Remuera, where I worked as a waitress making coffee and serving customers.

The more I made coffee the more I found myself falling in love with this industry and a passion for coffee making. Once I established myself at the Stamford Plaza I enrolled to do the NZHC National Diploma in Hospitality (Operational Management) with Artisan Consulting.

I have been on the programme for approximately a year now and am close to completion. Through this course I realised there is more to the hospitality industry than meets the eye.

Learning about recruitment, monitoring and improving productivity and the financial side of running a hospitality business has helped me create a base for my future in this industry.

I look forward to completing the course soon and one day creating my own successful hospitality business.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology under my belt it was major decision for me to make a radical shift into the wonderful world of Hospitality. I discovered my passion for hospitality and customer service while working at a multiplex in India. I moved to New Zealand and enrolled for a hospitality course in New Plymouth.

Since then there has been no looking back. Work placement brought me to Auckland where I started working at hotel Spencer on Byron in Takapuna as a banquet attendant. I soon moved to take up a position at the Skycity Grand. Last year I was nominated by the General Manager to do the NZHC National Diploma in Hospitality (Operational Management).

I am very glad to be enrolled on this programme. Being on the programme has not only built my confidence but helped me focus on several different operational aspects of hotel management. The support and material provided by Artisan consulting who deliver the programme on behalf of NZHC is second to none.

I feel that my learning is compounded with my ability to apply what I have learned on the programme directly at work. The programme has also helped me network with other hospitality professionals in Auckland enabling me to exchange ideas and experience.

Currently working at the Skycity Grand as F&B duty manager, I see myself as a successful head of department in the near future and look forward to continuing to build my career in hospitality.
